ITS a rebirth for Shaju, 37, from Nilamel in Kollam thanks to Merrin Paul, a nun. A retired headmistress of Infant Jesus High School, Aranattukara, she donated her kidney to Shaju, who has been suffering from ailments for the past 17 The organ was successfully harvested and transplanted at VPS Lakeshore Hospital here on Wednesday. Merrin Paul took the decision to donate one of her kidneys at the time of he: retirement to give her students the message of compassion to fellow beings. This led her to register with the Kidney Federation of India. One of the kidneys of Shaju, who was working in a cushion manufacturing unit, was removed 16 years ago. When it was found the second kidney too was failing, he registered with the Kidney Federation of India founded by Fr Davis Chiramel five years ago. The harvest and transplant of the kidney was carried out by a medical team led by Dr George P Abraham, head Of urology; Dr Datson George; Dr Vijay Radhakrishnan; Dr Mohan A Mathew, director, anesthesiology; and Dr Abi Abraham M, director, Nephrology and Transplant Services.

He has a wide range of experience in renal transplantation, critical care nephrology, vasculitis, lupus and electrolyte disorders. He has been awarded three prestigious fellowships, has widely cited publications in peer-reviewed journals, memberships in many renal societies and held administrative positions in organizations..
